The road to health is paved with good intentions. Take my intention, for example, to eat more fresh fruits. I bring them home, planning to grab an apple or banana for breakfast, only to end up grabbing one of those pastries that someone has the chutzpah to pass off as breakfast food. (A cheese Danish is just cheesecake that somebody sat on to disguise it.) Plus, much of the fruit I buy is organic, so it goes downhill fast. I once spoke too harshly to a co-op peach and watched bruises spontaneously form on its skin. After so much fruit-of-good-intentions…

Apparently, this rumor has spread far and wide and it landed at Bacardi’s worldwide global headquarters and they believed it too. So they bought it. Sadly, my friends, it is true. Factually, Bacardi, one of the largest spirit companies in the world, has signed a deal to distribute Zignum, which is clearly not an acquisition of Zignum, though many expect this will lead to one in the future. So who cares? I do. Everyone who drinks mezcal and shares a passion for it does too. And you should. Why? Here is the core…
Every bar has stories, but by virtue of age, ownership, or just plain oddness, some have way more than others. We rounded up 10 that really fit that bill, thanks to playing host to everything from Teddy Roosevelt’s recruitment of the Rough Riders, to George Steinbrenner’s recruitment of Billy Martin, to the recruitment of… an assassin?
